Fall Has Fallen {Modest Fashion Event} Day Seven

A word from our sponsor, Miss Barb:

I started making hair clips for my daughter Lucy, because I didn't care for what was available in stores. I then realized that I could sell them and contribute to research for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), which is what Lucy was born with. You can learn more about Lucy at www.lucyshopeforacure.blogspot.com.
So darling! (the prize from Miss Barb)

Today's fashion challenge:

Dress like the person who most inspires you in the world of fashion. Other rules that apply: if  you are wearing a dress or a skirt, please make sure they come at least down to the knee; please do not wearing tops or dresses that expose cleavage. Link up your outfit at the bottom of this post.

My outfit:

Blouse: thrifted (for like $1)
Skirt: thrifted (about $3)
Shoes: thrifted (borrowed from my sis-- not sure how much they cost)
Belt: thrifted ($1.47, I think)
Hair-clip: made by me
Hair: done by me and my sister Abby

I know, this was an extreme "no-no" in fashion-- I wore all dark colors (gray, black, brown and blue). Shame on me! :P But, hey, there is some white and gold in there!! :D No, to tell you the truth, I don't have any other clean skirts at this time, and we just moved so a lot of our stuff (a.k.a. clothing, etc.) is in storage. Blah, blah, blah. And, apologies for the poor lighting in the photos. It had just started raining, and so it was pretty over-cast too. Thanks to my sis, Abby, for taking the photos and helping me with my hair. =) <3

Today's interview (Miss Ali):

1. Tell us a little about yourself. -- My name is Ali Holmes and I'm 15 years old. I am the 3rd oldest out of six kids in my family. I guess you could say I'm a very talkative person, once I get to know you I am. :) My passion is the piano, I've been taking it for hmm... seven years now. My dad is a pastor at Sovereign Grace Church, and I'm the pianist for our church. :) I should also say I'm homeschooled and in 9th/10th grade, somewhere in between.

2. Have you always had the desire to dress modestly? If not, what prompted you in that area?you-- Wow! Okay well my answer is a yes and a no. Now what I mean by this is that about 3 years ago I started wearing skirts but not until last year did I fully understand why I should dress modestly. When I think of modesty I don't just think of just wearing skirts or dresses, personally believe it is considered modest wearing jeans, but they have to be loose fitted ones. There will be some stuff that I can't do wearing a skirts. If I was to ride a horse and it was windy that day, then most likely the wind will lift my skirt and WHOOPS!

3. Who is your fashion inspiration? Why? -- My fashion inspiration hmmm...I've never really thought of that. I guess I don't really have one, I just wear whatever I think look good and what my mom thinks is okay.

4. What is your favorite piece of clothing? Why? At the moment it would be skirts or dresses. But pretty soon it will be fall and my favorite piece of clothing will be sweaters!!

5. What is your favorite accessory? Why? Does boots count!? It that doesn't count, then it would be bracelets. :)

6. What do you like most about being a girl? Hmm...I love that there are a lot more options of clothes we can dress up in, and that God made me one.

7. Do you think make-up enhances ones beauty or flaunts it? I think a little make-up enhances ones beauty. Just don't go over board with the eye liner or eye shadow!!

8. What is your favorite fall outfit? Why? Dark blue jeans or skirt, with a nice long sleeve top, with a scarf and boots!! :)

Today's interview (Miss Ashley):

  1. Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi everyone, my name is Ashley. I’m a stay-at-home daughter, 22, who is a Christian and home-school graduate. I run an Etsy shop called, Bramblewood Boutique and a blog called, Bramblewood Fashion. When I’m not blogging or sewing, you can find me baking, watching old Hollywood movies, pinning away on Pinterest, serving the elderly in our Church, or trying to figure out the story-lines of British television shows like Sherlock or Doctor Who.

2. Have you always had the desire to dress modestly? If not, what prompted you in that area?
Yes, I’ve always had the desire to dress modestly, since that is what my parents taught me at a young age. Of course, our standards as family as to what is modest has changed over the years as we have gone through phases in our lives. Personally, I’ve never lost the desire to not dress modestly. Mostly because, I’ve always seen it important to obey God’s word, and my parents. That once I because older, it just because apart of who I am. So I really don’t remember any time that I did dress immodestly.

3. Who is your fashion inspiration? Why?
I don’t have just one person who is an fashion inspiration to me. I’m really inspired by my best friend, Achaia, who has a very similar style to mine. I also find inspiration from the 1940s/50s/60s, old movie stars {Audrey Hepburn/Grace Kelly/Ava Gardner....}, and current celebrities {Taylor Swift/Duchess of Cambridge/Reese Witherspoon....}.

4. What is your favorite piece of clothing? Why?
Hmmm....that is a hard question. I suppose right now it my cardigan collection. They are perfect for just-about every outfit and they come in a rainbow of colors & prints! Plus, I’m always cold year-round.

5. What is your favorite accessory? Why?
There is this one pair of chandelier earrings that I bought at Forever 21 last year that I wear all the time! They are perfect for that relaxing outfit of sweats & t-shirt, or with a formal for a special occasion. They are my go-to earrings for when ever I don’t know what pair to wear. Plus, they look great with my hair up, or down. I tell you they are awesome.

6. What do you like most about being a girl?
Being able to wear heels and make-up! Hahahaha...that was a total girly-girl moment I had there! This may shock you, but I’m not a complete girly-girl, I do have a bit of a tom-boy in me.

7. Do you think make-up enhances ones beauty or flaunts it?
I’ve just started to wear make-up personally this past year, and I’ve found that I like it best when you use it to just enhance ones natural beauty. Just keep it natural and don’t hid behind a mask of make-up. I will go many days without wearing any make-up myself, and when I do I like to wear just mascara and a lip product {either a lip gloss or lipstick}. When I feel a little pale that day, or when I’m going to film a video for my YouTube channel, or on a special occasion I will wear some blush in a nice natural coral color.

8. What is your favorite fall outfit? Why?
Come the week-end during the fall I love wearing skinny jeans, boots, sweater, button-down shirt, and either a trench coat or leather jacket. *sighs* It is *so* perfect for the fall time!

Fall Has Fallen {Modest Fashion Event} Day Five

Today's prize is from Miss Sarah. She has agreed to contribute this lovely Peony Vegan Blush. Thank you!

 a Rafflecopter giveaway

Today's fashion challenge:

Wear an outfit inspired by your favorite time period. Other rules that apply: if  you are wearing a dress or a skirt, please make sure they come at least down to the knee; please do not wearing tops or dresses that expose cleavage. Link up your outfit in a comment.

My outfit (Regency/Edwardian Eras/Modern):

Blouse: thrifted (for about $2)
Skirt: same as yesterday. Yup. 8)
Shoes: none. I love going barefoot, and I only wear shoes when I have to.
Headband: won in a giveaway

Thanks to my little brother for taking photos for me (again)! =)

Today's interview (Miss Olivia):

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm 19, a Christian, and the oldest of 6. I spend my days cooking, cleaning, blogging, and ministering to those around me. Keeps me busy! I live on 64 acres and we have exactly 100 animals... all but 8 of those being chickens. ;)

2. Have you always had the desire to dress modestly? If not, what prompted you in that area?
I have not always desired it, but I've always done it. The Lord really changed my heart when I was 13/14 from a rebellious, lemmedowhatIwant girl to a OkayIwanttofollowyouLord woman. I think the biggest influence was just blogs of Christian women who talked about dressing modestly. :)

3. Who is your fashion inspiration? Why?
Wow, hard question. I don't really have a single inspiration... I just pick up bits and pieces here and there of different things I love and incorporate them into my own wardrobe.

4. What is your favorite piece of clothing? Why?
I *love* my short gored dark denim skirt that I made. You can see a picture of it here. It's perfectly durable and practical, always cute, slimming, and matches everything.
5. What is your favorite accessory? Why?
Wow, I'm realizing that I don't wear that many accessories besides jewelry. I do love my big brown leather belt with a huuuge floral belt buckle though and enjoy wearing that. :) It's country, but classy, and gives a lot of interest to an outfit. :)

6. What do you like most about being a girl?
I love that we get to infuse beauty into our surroundings. We are the decorators, the cleaners, the sewers, the knitters. The home makers. The ones who God has created beautiful. And we get the chance to enhance that beauty and cultivate it.
7. Do you think make-up enhances ones beauty or flaunts it?
I believe that make up is something that enhances beauty and just "tends our gardens."  Too much make up can be distracting, but if it brings out your features tastefully, I think it's great. :D
8. What is your favorite fall outfit? Why?
I love my long denim skirt with a red plaid button up shirt. I wear another shirt underneath that has a black hood, so the hood hangs over the plaid and it's just delightful. :) and warm.

Wear an autumn-y print blouse, skirt or dress. Other rules that apply: if  you are wearing a dress or a skirt, please make sure they come at least down to the knee; please do not wearing tops or dresses that expose cleavage. Link up your outfit in a comment.

My outfit:

Blouse: thrifted (for like $2)
Skirt: thrifted (for 3 bucks or so)
Shoes: none. ;)
Hair: by me and my sista, Abby. =)

Special thanks for my 9-year-old brother, Jaden, for taking these photos for me! =) <3

Today's interview (Miss Johanna):

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Johanna Grace, I'm 16, photographer, blogger, writer, librarian, farmer (and more). I live on a farm in Texas and love Jesus most of all. I like fashion quite a bit, thank you, and try very hard to dress modestly and so that my clothing represents who I am. My style is just slightly eclectic at times, I own too many cardigans, some people say that I'm a hipster... but I think I'm just me being me. Pleasure to meet you all!

2. Have you always had the desire to dress modestly? If not, what prompted you in that area?
I always have dressed modestly because of my parents wishes, but it is a very personal choice for me as well. I believe in dressing modestly because I want to glorify God in everything I do, and I love all my brothers very much and don't want them to blush and turn away every time they look at me.

3. Who is your fashion inspiration? Why?
My fashion inspiration has always been my Memaw, she's beautiful, fashionable and super classy. She's taught me that you don't need to bare it all to be noticed and respected.

4. What is your favorite piece of clothing? Why?
My current favorite is a silk blouse I found at a thrift shop, it's kind of 80's, brown, tan, and cream with lots of colorful geometric shapes. I like it because it stands out in a crowd and super easy to wear. Adorbs!

5. What is your favorite accessory? Why?
I'm going to have to say a scarf, because they're so useful and easy to dress up or down.

6. What do you like most about being a girl?
I love being a girl in this modern age, because you have the choice to be feminine while still doing something very productive with your life.

7. Do you think make-up enhances ones beauty or flaunts it?
It depends on how you wear it, certainly. I wear makeup most days when I go out because I like the creativity that comes through it. I personally love a very basic look, even skin-tone, a few highlights, a little mascara and a touch of eye-liner, for the most part, is as much as I do. It should never be used to hide who you really are and turn you into someone else, but like a friend of mine once said; "You are not your skin problems, so why should that be the first thing people see?"

8. What is your favorite fall outfit? Why?
I adore, long, warm, colorful, fuzzy sweaters (or jumpers as they call them in Britain) pulled on over my almost-skinny-but-not-enough-to-be-immodest jeans, the cuffs rolled up and a pair of sturdy boots on my feet. And a ridiculously wonderful scarf as well. Come on fall!

Fall Has Fallen {Modest Fashion Event} Day Three

Today's prize is from Miss Carolyn.Thank you for sponsoring!!

A word from Miss Carolyn:

I grew up in Washington state and relocated to Chicago after being a short term missionary teaching English in Quito, Ecuador for two years. Received my MSW from Jane Addams School of Social Work, met my husband at the church where I did my second year field placement, and now 28 years of marriage, and three daughters later, we now live in NW Indiana along with our youngest daughter and I teach English as a Second Language for the City Colleges of Chicago. In my spare time I sew! I've donated many items to NICUs, Indian reservations, soldiers in Iraq and more. I've always kept my hands busy, from early childhood Christmas gifts that challenged me to be creative to making clothes, repairing friend's clothes, making quilts and all the other items you see in my shop. I love to be creative! Thankfully my husband loves to cook!

This adorable coffee cozy is the prize

Today's fashion challenge:

Wear some sort of hat (pillbox, slouch, newsboy, birdcage, etc.). Other rules that apply: if  you are wearing a dress or a skirt, please make sure they come at least down to the knee; please do not wearing tops or dresses that expose cleavage. Link up your outfit in a comment.

Today's interview (Miss Leah):

1. Tell us a little about yourself. I am 18 years old. I’m 4th of ten children. When I ask people to describe me in one word, they usually always say  “Laugh”….’for I dearly love to laugh’….My favorite things to do are horseback riding, shopping, 4-wheeler riding, dancing, walking, writing, etc. etc.  and just hanging out with my family & friends doing anything. I’ve lived in the same place my entire life. I’ve no idea how it feels to move. I’m a people person all around, I can be shy though. I love my family, my friends, and my life. God has blessed me with so much. I was saved 3 years ago, and I have been striving to find and follow God’s will for my life. I’m not perfect, but God loves me anyhow.

2. Have you always had the desire to dress modestly? If not, what prompted you in that area? My parents have brought me up to dress modestly, until the last few years; it was their conviction and not mine personally. But I’ve come to desire to dress modestly, because personally, I think MY only reason for not dressing modestly, would be to “show off” my body. And I DON’T WANT TO DO THAT! So I hope that explains my reasons for modest dress. =)

3. Who is your fashion inspiration? Why?   I love the way my older sister dresses, so she’d prolly be my “fashion inspiration” she’s always so dressy, but yet casual, cute, and just all around her style’s my favorite. =)

4. What is your favorite piece of clothing? Why? My skirts are my favorite….And then secondly, button ups! I just love how skirts are so full and swishy and I love twirling in them, button ups? I just love them for no reason really, other than they are comfy and my style!  ^_^

5. What is your favorite accessory? Why? hmmm…probably my dangly earings, because I just love how they, Dangle! Haha. ^_^

6. What do you like most about being a girl? Honestly, I always used to wish I was a guy. They always seemed to get to do the fun stuff. But now, I love being a girl, because I love dressing up (guys can’t really do that as well as girls heehee) I love lots of things about being a girl…but all around MY FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A GIRL IS THE FACT THAT GOD MADE ME ONE!

7. Do you think make-up enhances ones beauty or flaunts it? I think makeup can enhance ones beauty, but if over done can easily flaunt it.

8. What is your favorite fall outfit? Why? My favorite fall outfit, would be my brown tiered skirt. Tank top, and plaid button up! =) I love that outfit because it’s me, and it’s comfy!

Fall Has Fallen {Modest Fashion Event} Day Two

Today's prize is from Miss Samantha.Thank you for donating these lovely earrings!

A word from Miss Samantha:

I am a Christian young lady who loves to create beautiful and colorful accessories. Each of my polymer clay accessories is made by hand, no molds used! I don't want a factory-made look when I create my items.
My resin cabochons are all purchased from other Etsy shops. I try to support other Etsy businesses as much as possible, so whenever I can't make a supply I shop Etsy first. All of the items in my shop are entirely made from my own hands and/or Etsy supplies.

One thing you will notice as you enter my shop is COLOR! I love color, and try to incorporate a lot of different colors into my creations.
I have been a artist/crafter ever since I was a little girl. I loved to color, paint, draw and create when I was little. Once I reached the age of 12 or so I am became interested in polymer clay. A hobby that started with me making dollhouse food has turned into a wonderful little home business where I still create little foods- just in jewelry, charm, magnet and pushpin form!
I also enjoy creating bright and beautiful resin cabochon jewelry pieces. There are so many different designs and colors to choose from that I am always coming up with new ideas for jewelry pieces or accessories.

They are very cute, huh! :)
