Painting - "Portrait of a Young Woman Painter" by Jean-Marc Nattier

    {True Beauty}
For attractive lips, speak only words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in others.
For a slim figure, share your food with the poor.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his finger through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.

    A Visitor

Earlier this week one of our German relatives came over and I got to meet him for the first time. His name is Joachim Kautt and he is my Dad's second cousin. He lives in Immenhausen, Germany with his wife (Martina) and children, Tabitha (12) and Raphael (9, I think). We had a fun time with him and he had a lot of interesting things to tell us. Any way, below are a few photos of his visit. I wish we could've gotten more photos.

Mom and Abby visiting with Joachim (or "Yo").

My Dad and his second cousin (Joachim). Don't you think they look a lot alike? I do!

Joachim and my brother Caleb  - they even look alike! :)

    A Quiet Blog

I am sorry my blog is so quiet lately. I am currently staying with my Grandma helping to take care of my 96-year-old Great-grandma. Great had a stroke about a month and a half ago and has been in various degrees of a comatose state ever since. She did say "ouch" the other day, but that's been the only word she has said since her stroke. Please pray for Great (Una Mae) and those of us who are taking care of her. So I hope you understand why my blog has been so quiet-- and no photos, because I do not have a camera with me nor a way to upload photos. :(

It's Beginning to Feel a Lot Like Christmas...

...Well, almost. :) My family is having a large family get-together this Christmas, so I decided I could be in charge of the table decor. Here was my idea:

    A fabric "yo-yo" Christmas tree. :)

Also a neat Christmas present idea is a pincushion like this:
    More lovely Christmas gift ideas...

I may add more as I find more cool ideas. :)

    Yo-Yo Christmas Tree Tutorial
    - green scarps of fabric & or tulle (largest about half a yard)
    - scissors
    - thread
    - silver or gold beads, preferably metal (optional)
    - needle
    - hot glue gun (optional)

    1. Cut out circles of fabric, about 1 inch difference in diameter for each circle.
    2. Take your threaded needle and stitch along the edge of the circle and "gather" it. For a finished edge, turn the edge under once or twice as you go around the perimeter.
    3. Pull the edges out so it is flat.
    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the rest of your circles.
    5. Glue (or hand sew) the yo-yos together, going from largest (right side up) all the way up to the smallest.
    6. Finishing touch-- attach a silver or gold bead to the top, either by gluing, or by sewing. You could also attach a wooden spool (with no thread on it) to the bottom as the "stump".

Let my know how yours turn out! Happy crafting!

    A Friend's Visit

All of us Kautt kids, minus Phoebe (she was taking the photo).

All of us Kautts (except Dad who, was at home) and our friend Alex. Alex is a foreign exchange student from Romania. We know him because his Aunt has come to our church. We are glad she introduced us to Alex-- he's a great guy! :) We enjoyed taking him around to local museums and going on outings with him.

Caleb, Jaden and Alex watching a white-tailed deer.

    Ah...I LOVE fall!

Alex, at our house. Dad is at Alex's right--I didn't get a good photo of him.

    Us Kautt kiddos and Alex

Alex was very tolerant towards Jaden. :)

Yours-truly, Alex and Jaden. I wonder what was going on in that little head of Jaden's. :)

    I really like this photo

    Being crazy...

Our "adopted" cousin. We miss ya!
